Why Pleofon is better than everything else?
Yes, this is just our opinion. But it might become yours too. Because that is exactly where Pleofon came from. A gap in the market.
Sure, AI-powered video cutting tools already exist. But they are BAD. And anyone who has ever tried editing a video longer than 10 minutes in one of them, or a video containing more than two retakes, probably knows exactly what we mean.
Most of these tools approach the problem from the wrong direction. They generate a transcript from your video and let you edit that transcript like a text document: Delete something from the transcript -> it disappears from the timeline. Ta-da. And this is also how their systems often decide what to cut in the first place. Your video gets turned into a transcript, often on somebody else’s servers, and then either an LLM or some deterministic rules decide what should stay and what should go. Spoiler: both are bad at it.
Because transcripts like these, even when generated by huge and expensive models running on some server in Kentucky, are FLAWED. Sometimes the word timing is wrong. Sometimes the words themselves are wrong. Usually, to some extent, both are. Either way, deleting a word from a transcript is absolutely not the same thing as an experienced editor cutting that word by ear. The difference is enormous.
And that is why so many AI auto-cutters call their output a “rough cut”. You are expected to take that rough cut into a proper NLE and painstakingly fix everything afterward. Their editors are often web-based and, for someone who actually edits videos for a living, mildly exotic to say the least. Keyboard shortcuts are usually an afterthought, and the timeline is sometimes little more than decoration.
Recently, there has also been a trend of asking ChatGPT or Claude to cut your videos for you. Again, good luck. The editing decision is still being made primarily from an imperfect transcript instead of the actual material.
Not to mention that this kind of editing can get expensive. Those tokens cost money. And whether we are talking about the ChatGPTs of this world or competing dedicated tools, there are usually LIMITS.
We have two tiers. There is a free tier, which is limited because, unfortunately, we would quite like to afford food and encourage you to buy the paid version. But with the paid plan, for $20 a month, you can process as much footage as you can physically throw at Pleofon that month.
Our models run locally on your computer. And despite that, they are remarkably smart. I have spent most of my life editing videos for the internet. Among other things, I created a Polish YouTube channel called SzopDemaskuje. And as an editor, I knew that the usual approach was fundamentally flawed.
Instead of forcing an LLM to pretend to be an editor based on an imperfect transcript, why not simply build an AI whose only job is to cut footage? So I did. And as an editor with at least some experience, I also happened to have something incredibly useful sitting on my drives. An archive.
More specifically, a lot of audio before editing, paired with that exact same audio after editing. That became the foundation of the training data for our models. They learned from actual editing decisions. Which is why Pleofon’s cuts often resemble the cuts I would make myself. In a weird way, when you hire Pleofon, you are hiring a tiny bit of me.
Still, there is something important we need to say. Pleofon is not perfect. Especially at this early stage of development. We genuinely believe our approach is better than what most competitors currently offer, and we have developed benchmarks and research to support that claim, which we will be publishing in upcoming articles.
But Pleofon is still a machine. Not a human editor. Sometimes its decisions need to be corrected. We hope that happens as rarely as possible, but we are not going to pretend everything it does is magical.
That is why Pleofon gives you a proper set of tools for fixing those mistakes as quickly as possible. Snap-to-word. Snap-to-silence. Adjustable cut points. Text-based editing. Manual timeline editing. And plenty of smaller things designed around one simple goal: Making corrections painless.
And this is also why the Pleofon Improve Program is so important to us. Data protection law in the EU is a complicated jungle, especially for a small project like ours, so here is the actual idea without hiding behind corporate language: Yes, with the Improve Program enabled, we want the full audio from your project. No, we will NEVER use that audio to train generative AI for voice generation, voice cloning, voice imitation, or anything similar. It will only be used to improve Pleofon’s editing and cut decisions.
This is PARTICULARLY valuable if you edit in a language our current models have not yet been trained on. Right now, our models have primarily been trained on Polish and English material. That does not mean Pleofon will not work with other languages. It means it will probably perform worse on them until we get enough data to properly teach it.
